Where can I get help if I can't afford rent in New Brunswick?
For tenants
Start with 211: dial 2-1-1, free and any time, and they will connect you to shelters, rent help, and income support near you. If it is an after-hours emergency, like you are being put out with nowhere to go, call After-Hours Emergency Social Services at 1-800-442-9799. The Rent Bank can give a one-time grant of up to two months' rent (max $2,750) to stop an eviction or a utility cut-off, paid straight to your landlord. You can also apply for income assistance through Social Development, and for subsidized housing or a rent supplement through Housing NB at 1-833-733-7835. For landlords
If your tenant is struggling to pay, pointing them to these supports can prevent an eviction and keep the rent coming. The Rent Bank pays an eligible tenant's arrears directly to the landlord, and 211 can connect them to the right programs.
